Firebreak Activity at Umpiem Temporary Shelter, Tak Province

To prevent and reduce the risk of fires in the Umpiem Temporary Shelter community, where densely populated living conditions and flammable materials such as thatch, bamboo, and dry leaves increase the risk of fire, the COERR Foundation, in collaboration with the Camp Committee and community members, organized a firebreak activity under the theme “Prevention is Better Than Cure” from 11–15 February 2026 around Umpiem Temporary Shelter in Tak Province. Approximately 1,600 community members participated in the activity, representing 16 sections, with 100 participants from each section.

The activity aimed to promote community participation in fire prevention, environmental protection, and reducing risks that could affect the lives and property of community members. Participants worked together using basic tools such as knives and hoes to clear grass and vegetation around the temporary shelter and establish firebreaks approximately 4–5 meters wide, helping to prevent and reduce the spread of fires into the community. The activity not only strengthened community preparedness for fire prevention but also raised awareness and encouraged shared responsibility for protecting lives, property, and the environment. The collective participation of community members also strengthened community solidarity and resilience in responding to potential disasters in the future.
